| Aggrie Chikiwa won the ultimate accolade of the National Training Awards 2010 'Winner of the Year' in the Individual category at the NTA UK Ceremony held on the 1 December Old Billingsgate, London. Aggrie Chikiwa was a teacher in Zimbabwe where he developed a remote country school from having just two classrooms to having over 1200 learners in a period of 5 years. He brought his family to England in 2002 and was devastated to find that his teacher training qualification was not recognised in the UK. So, Aggrie started an education degree and took on two jobs as van driver and road cleaner to support his family. In 2006, he broke his arm and could no longer work and this lead to a serious chain of events where he became homeless. Aggrie found the support of homeless charity Anchor House who took him in and he was able to complete his degree whilst volunteering as a trainer. Aggrie has since been taken on as Head of Education and Training at Anchor House, developing the entire learning arm of the charity and has helped hundreds of others to build their confidence and self-esteem. Aggrie is a real success story and a true inspiration to others. The Judges found that the impact that Aggrie's had on Anchor House is huge. His legacy is wide and far reaching and he is a true beacon for training. |
