Countdown to HST brings more twists, turns

| NORTH SAANICH - These are the last days of not paying the harmonized sales tax in BC. Some economists are claiming the HST will have major benefits for big business. At Viking Air in North Saanich, hundreds of workers are busy on the floor filling millions of dollars worth of orders building planes and plane components. The company is one of Vanocuver Island's manufacturing success stories, but will that success continue under the Harmonized Sales Tax? That's the government's argument, so /A News put the question to Viking's controller, Brian Sluggett. Sluggett says the impact won't hurt the company, but won't help it much either. It's kind of like the story with the anti-hst petition drive, signing the thing has made about 700-thousand British Columbians feel better, but it won't do much to stop the tax... Even then, BC business leaders are seeking a judicial review to stop the petition. |
